Delta - Seeing Her Birth Mother
Delta is seeking her birth mother. She is not an uncommon case. We hope that she’ll find all she’s seeking.
If you do recognize the woman in this photo or the information below is familiar, please reach out to hello@thehalfieproject.com
“My father was black and my birth mother is Korean and Japanese, I think. I guess it’s odd to not know exactly, but I haven’t known her since I was 2 years old. I recall seeing an old home video where my mother was teaching me to speak Korean and English so at some point I guess I was learning to become bi-lingual, but after she left I was only exposed to my father’s culture. I knew that I did not look like the kids I went to school with and definitely stood out from my father’s side of the family. I was raised to be a little black girl yet I clearly looked Asian. I got teased for everything and ultimately rejected my Asian culture because of it. I always asked my father ‘why aren’t I as dark as my sister?’ or ‘why don’t I look more like you?’ He would tell me not to worry what other people thought or said about me. I wanted him to explain more about my full heritage but I think on some level he was also still deeply hurt from the loss of my birth mother.”
